NON-BAFE FIRE RISK ASSESSMENT SCHEME

You may be aware that Warringtonfire have decided to withdraw their Fire Risk Assessors Certification Scheme (FRACS) effective from 31st December 2024. Following discussion with Warringtonfire, it has been agreed that NSI will temporarily take over the FRACS to enable those companies and individuals on the FRACS registers time to transfer to the NSI/BAFE SP205 Life Safety Fire Risk Assessment scheme should they wish to do so. To facilitate this, NSI has developed the NSI Fire Risk Assessment Scheme (FRAS) which will operate from 1st January 2025. It is the intention to have the NSI scheme accredited by UKAS in due course. However, the scheme will not be aligned to the current BAFE SP205 scheme. Companies or individuals who are certificated to the NSI FRAS will not be able to claim they are “BAFE Approved” or be permitted to issue NSI/BAFE Certificates of Compliance for the fire risk assessments they complete. The purpose of this letter is to inform you that the NSI FRAS will operate as a ‘closed’ scheme and will only be available to those companies and individuals already registered on the Warringtonfire FRACS. New applications will not be accepted. As a FRACS Certificate of Approval nears its expiry date, the holder of the certificate will be invited to apply for the BAFE SP205 scheme. I trust the above is self-explanatory but, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
