PUBLICATION OF A NEW NSI CODE OF PRACTICE FOR THE PLANNING, INSTALLATION, COMMISSIONING AND MAINTENANCE OF INTRUDER ALARMS, AND THE WITHDRAWAL OF NACP 11

This circular letter introduces NSI Technical Bulletin No. 0062 which describes requirements in the new NSI code of practice NCP 120 Issue 1. The rationale behind the creation of NCP 120 A revision of NACP 11 (NSI NACOSS Gold Supplementary Code of Practice for the Planning, Installation and Maintenance of Intruder Alarms) was undertaken. NACP 11 included many out of date references and many of the requirements are now to be found in other standards referenced by both NSI NACOSS Gold and Systems Silver approval schemes; e.g. BS 9263, BS 8243, etc. To avoid duplication, these requirements have been removed. Post revision, it was clear that the scope of NACP 11 needed significant change in order to be relevant today, so a new document title was created. The main requirements introduced by the publication NCP 120 • Documented process for handover to another approved company where maintenance is to be transferred. • Compliance with NPCC or Police Scotland security system requirements. • Specific requirements from BS 7671 (wiring regulations). • Clarification of requirements found in BS 9263 for on-site maintenance visits • Inclusion of example forms and certificates. • Any components replaced during a corrective maintenance visit should be functionally tested. Implementation dates For new applicant companies New NSI applicant companies to the NACOSS Gold and Systems Silver schemes will need to be compliant with NCP 120 Issue 1 with immediate effect. For approved companies NSI companies approved to the NACOSS Gold and Systems Silver schemes will need to be compliant with NCP 120 Issue 1 by 1st April 2022. To allow companies the necessary time to review and adapt appropriate processes and procedures to meet the requirements of NCP 120 Issue 1, NSI will not start auditing to this new code of practice until 1st December 2021. From this date and until 1st April 2022, a non-compliance will have an audit note recorded against clauses of the code. From 1st April 2022, normal audit practice will resume where findings will be recorded against clauses of the Standard and will have to be satisfactorily addressed before approval can be granted. How do I obtain a copy of NCP 120 Issue 1? NCP 120 Issue 1 is available as a download via the NSI approved company portal by navigating to either NACOSS Gold or Systems Silver then to Codes of Practice. Questions or queries?
