Publication of BS 10800:2020 Code of Practice for the Provision of Security Services

This circular letter introduces NSI Technical Bulletin No. 0053 which describes the recently published standard BS 10800:2020. The main requirements introduced by the publication of the 2020 edition of BS 10800 have been introduced by the BSI to bring the standards for the security services sector in line with international standards such as ISO 9001:2015. It aims to be the overarching security services standard that provides common requirements for each individual security services sector standard. It also introduces many organisation quality management requirements traditionally found in ISO 9001. Each security services sector standard will be adapted and modified by the BSI to follow the new structure in due course. At the time of writing this letter, BS 7499:2020 ‘Provision of static guarding security services’ and BS 7984-3:2020 ‘Provision of mobile security services’ are the only security service sector standards that have undergone a revision to follow the new format and reference BS 10800:2020. Other security service sector standards do not at this time require compliance with BS 10800:2020. Implementation timescale for applicant companies New applicant companies to NSI Guarding Gold and Silver schemes will be audited against BS 10800:2020 with immediate effect and any Improvement Needs recorded against clauses of the Standard will have to be satisfactorily addressed before approval can be granted. Implementation timescale for existing approved companies NSI approved companies will need to be compliant with BS 10800:2020 by the 31st March 2021. To allow companies the necessary time to review and adapt appropriate processes and procedures in order to meet the requirements of BS 10800:2020, NSI will not start auditing to BS 10800:2020 until the 1st October 2020. From that date and until the 31st March 2021, a non-compliance will have an audit note recorded against clauses of the standard. From the 31st March 2021, an Improvement need will be recorded against clauses of the Standard and will have to be satisfactorily addressed before approval can be granted. How do I obtain a copy of BS 10800:2020? BS 10800:2020 is available as an outright individual purchase directly from the BSI (for £182) or at a 12½% discounted rate from the NSI. Due to BSI rules after publication of a new standard, the standard will not be available as a download via the NSI approved company Standards on Subscription service until October 2020.
